Crowns and Bridges

BRIDGES

A bridge (often called a fixed partial denture) replaces missing teeth. A bridge can restore your smile and ability to chew and speak properly. It can also prevent the remaining teeth from drifting out of position. They are a great option for those who want a more permanent solution to dentures.

Procedure: A crown is made for the teeth on either side of the gap. The crowns can be supported by natural teeth or by dental implants. The dentist will then make an impression of your teeth for the laboratory to create your bridge. The bridge is then placed between the crowns and attached to them, filling the desired empty space. Bridges require 2 dental visits.

CROWNS

A crown (often called a cap) covers the tooth and restores it to its original shape and size. It is often used when the tooth is badly decayed or fractured and when partial coverage of the tooth with veneers or laminate is not an option. Crowns are incredibly strong and will preserve the function of the damaged tooth by protecting and strengthening it.

Procedure: Decay is removed and cleaned from the tooth. A mold or impression of the tooth surface is made and sent to a laboratory where the customized crown is made. The crown is then bonded to the tooth with dental cement. Getting a crown requires at least two dental visits. During the first visit the tooth surface will be prepared and the crown will be ordered. During the second visit the crown will be placed.
